About Sue
Sue Fell, born on the 7th November 1975, in Burton-upon-Trent, has 1 sister Jenny and 1 brother called Pete. Sue is the middle child to parents Michael & Norma Fell.
Sue started training in 1989 with Master Kevin Ayre, 4th Degree (also from Burton-upon-Trent), in Wado-Ryu Karate, she was early 14 years old when joining purely through wanting to keep fit and learning a Martial Arts system, as she was in every team sport at school, and knew she only had a few years left at school and wanted to stay active and fit. Sue attended Richard Wakefield Primary School in Tutbury moving to Hatton Secondary School in Derbyshire, but sadly the school closed, moving to John Port School in Etwall, Derbyshire.
The karate club was only up the road from where she lived so it was very convenient to fit it into her weekly schedule. Sue's forte was her fighting and knew at green belt that she had the passion for it. Her brother Peter aged 6 at the time, had been training over a year before Sue started, so it had been something that inspired her to have a go.
Finishing school in the summer of 1992, she attended Rolleston College doing Art and Design where qualified gaining a accolade of a National Diploma in June 1994. Inbetween this time without fail every Tuesday for six years Sue got her teaching experience with master Kevin Ayre in one of his classes at Waterside Community Centre in Stapenhill, Burton-upon-Trent..
It came to the end of her college course that she made the best decision of her career by not going to University to do Art and Design, but having the vision one day she would have own Martial Arts School. Her heart lay in the Martial Arts.
It was a couple of years later in February 1997 that the first female kickboxing class taught by a female (Sue) took off with amazing results. Sue had found a niche market. The first class had 56 ladies turn up from local areas; what an experience!! Nobody had done this before in this area. Sue had a full time job through all of this after leaving college, as well as sticking to the Martial Arts. Here Sue Fell Kickboxing was born.
Sues transition from Wado-Ryu Karate to Kickboxing came in the summer of 96, where it seemed more real to Sue. Due to the limitations and restriction in the fighting side of the karate, as well as always seeing crime on television. She wanted something that related more to her at that present time.
However, the programme today that she has designed comes from her past experiences with the female members that she trained with, within the inter clubs. Most females would not want to spar with Sue as her talent showed through because of her passion for it. Females would avoid her because they did not like the physical side of the Martial Arts on people, with however much control that there was. They felt intimidated and embarrassed, even to the stage of quitting.
The programme's today are about WE PUNCH PADS, NOT PEOPLE!, being their own personal best, not to be the best, as well as healthy competition, with out the intimidation of feeling incapable and embarrassed and without the physical contact on people when sparring.
